A big chunk is to be cut out of the Square and occupied by a placeless corporation

Lab Architects, a small London based design studio, won the competition for Federation Square. They moved to Melbourne and caught the Melbourne design bug. So did Griffin and Mahoney. Their legacy is part of what makes Melbourne the place it is. Now a big chunk is to be cut out of the Square and occupied by a placeless corporation, tax shifting Apple, who commission a placeless corporation, the globalised designer Foster. And by the look of it, by the back office. And everyone bows down. Oh dear.
